House Construction Slows In Rural Areas Of County

Only nine building permits were issued for new house construction in Washington County in 2019, according to records of the Zoning Office. That is less than half the 19 permits issued in 2018.

The next lowest number was 13 permits in 2013.

People building new houses apparently prefer rural areas than towns. While the 9 permits for houses in rural areas/towns without their own zoning was at a historic low, it was still more than the cumulative number issued in the Village of Okawville, 2; and City of Nashville, 1.

The County Zoning office issues building permits in unincorporated areas and towns that do not have their own zoning.
