Body of Okawville Woman Found After Fire

The body of a rural Okawville woman was found after a fire at her home early Thursday morning.

Lynette Cary, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene of a structure fire at 16707 Covington Road. Cary was the owner of the house that burned.

According to a press release from Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, firefighters from Addieville and Okawville were called to the residence at 4:14 a.m. A neighbor called in the fire after seeing the glow from the fire.

Addieville Fire Chief Ryan Wiedwilt said that by the time firefighters were on scene, the house fire was fully involved. “The house was more than 90 percent down by the time we arrived on scene,” he said.

After the fire was fully extinguished, firefighters and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s investigators began a search through the debris for a victim. Wiedwilt said that the time of day and the fact that the homeowner’s vehicle was at the location led them to believe that someone may have been inside.
