Rockets Blast Hillsboro In Season Opener

By Jon Kraus

The Rockets opened the 2019 basketball campaign on Saturday night with a 62-34 victory over Hillsboro in their first pool game of the Carlyle Kaskaskian Classic.

The Rockets and Hillsboro both got off to slow starts in the opening quarter of the season, and Hillsboro grabbed the 10-8 advantage after one.

The second period saw the Rockets explode for 23 points while holding Hillsboro to just eight, and the Rockets would take a 31-18 advantage into the break.

The Rockets talked at halftime about maintaining the momentum into the third quarter with a good start. The boys listened and scored the first eight points and built a 21-point advantage and the lead would grow to 30 heading into the fourth quarter.

Okawville played well inside and outside. The Rockets got some easy baskets in transition and with some post touches. The team also connected on eight three-pointers for the game. The victory moved the Rockets to 1-0 in pool play as well as the season.
