It was not pretty, but the Okawville Lady Rockets managed a win over Wesclin in the season opener Monday at the Nashville Thanksgiving Tournament.
Okawville shot just 18 percent from the field, but the Lady Rockets dominated the boards to eke out a 31-26 win.
Cold shooting by the Lady Rockets allowed the Lady Warriors to build a 23-16 lead heading into the fourth quarter. It would have been a lot worse had Okawville not out-rebounded Wesclin 44-24 in the game.
Things started clicking late for the Lady Rockets, as they closed the game on a 15-3 run to erase the deficit and pull ahead for the win.
Megan Rennegarbe led the scoring for Okawville with nine points. Briley Rhodes scored five points, Chloe Tepe and Grace Foster both had four, and Delaney Toensing finished with three points and ten rebounds. Sydney Tebbe and Megan Schleifer both finished the game with two points and eight rebounds apiece.
The Lady Rockets were back in action Tuesday against Mascoutah. They will play Nashville Saturday at 1:30 p.m. to determine when they play in the final round later Saturday.
