One man was killed and another injured in an ATV accident near Addieville early Sunday morning.
Michael Todd of Okawville was killed and Daniel Savard of Okawville was injured as a result of the crash, which occurred on County Highway 6 just west of Addieville.
According to a report from Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, Todd, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene of the rollover accident. Savard was a passenger on the ATV, and he was transported from the scene by Arch Medical helicopter to Saint Louis University Hospital.
The report indicates that Todd was driving the ATV westbound on County Highway 6 when his vehicle left the road, struck a culvert and overturned.
Todd and Savard were ejected from the vehicle, and the ATV came to rest on top of Todd. Both were unrestrained, according to the report.
Savard says he suffered a broken clavicle, several broken ribs and a minor pneumothorax (collapsed lung). He is expected to recover from his injuries.
Todd was a Okawville Fire Department firefighter and Washington County paramedic, and Savard is also an Okawville volunteer firefighter. The first responders to the scene had the unenviable task of handling an accident involving friends and coworkers.
Agencies on the scene were Washington County Ambulance Service, Addieville Fire Department, Okawville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Nashville Police Department.
Todd’s visitation and funeral will be held Thursday and Friday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Education Hall and Church. An obituary is on our website.
