Louis M. Waier

Mr. Louis M. Waier, 95, of Ashley, departed this life at home with family on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 2:50 PM. 

Louis was born on December 24, 1923 in Radom, the son of Walter and JoAnna (Janowski) Waier. He was united in marriage to Florence Bathon on January 6, 1951 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Todds Mill, IL and she preceded him in death on November 1, 2013.

Louis was a World War II Veteran, served in action December 28, 1943-1946 as Corporal in the United States Marine Corps with special proficiency as automatic rifleman. After he completed his service in the military he was employed at the GM Fisherbody plant in St. Louis, MO, retiring in February 1979 and moving back to his home place in Ashley where he farmed, raised chickens, rabbits, hogs and cattle and later taking small bus trips with friends and family. He also loved fishing, playing cards and bingo. Louis was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom.

Left to mourn his passing is his son, Melvin (Dana) Waier of Florissant, MO; three daughters, Mary (Bob) Rokicki of Woodlawn, IL, Shirley (Russell) Kopesky, of Collinsville, IL and Rita (Eugene Jr.) Doerr of Florissant, MO; 12 grandchildren, Michelle Schwartzkopf (Brandon Knau) of Nashville, IL, Dawn Kopesky (Omar Monjaras) of Spanish Lake, MO, Russell (Robyn) Kopesky, of Troy, MO, Debra (Roger) Neitzel of San Diego, CA, Christy (Wade) Champ of Mt. Vernon, IL, Scott Kopesky of Spanish Lake, MO, Eugene (Amanda) Doerr III of Wentzville, MO, John (Sarah) Waier of St. Charles, MO, Amanda (William) Peper of Troy, MO, Mark Waier (Andrew Pham) of Los Angeles, CA, Amy Kopesky of Collinsville, IL and Christopher (Christina) Waier of Florissant, MO; 20 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way, Paige (Todd Robinson), Callie and Radyn Schwartzkopf, Tucker Knau, Sarah (Ben) Lehmkuhl, Justin, Katelynn, Melany and Samantha Kopesky, Mya Monjaras, Lexy and Devyn Pedtke, Colby and Libby Champ, Ella and Ava Neitzel, and Gabriella, Dylan and Genevieve Doerr, Mikey Creamer; three great great grandchildren, Talyn Robinson, Owen and Mason Lehmkuhl; a sister-in-law, Florence Waier of Mcleansboro, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, Marie (Pete) Winka, Ann (Leo) Dalman and Theresa (Milton) Kellerman; three brothers, Ed, Raymond and Albert Waier; a sister-in-law, Dora (Henry) Setzekorn; four brothers-In-law, Bernard (Irene) Bathon, Paul (Virginia) Bathon, Mike (Leona) Bathon and Eugene Bathon.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 10 AM with Fr. Oliver Nwachukwu officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post #110.

Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Ashley, IL on Wednesday from 4 PM until 8 PM and on Thursday from 7:30 AM until 9 AM. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Should friends desire, mass offerings or memorials may be made to the St. Michael Altar Sodality and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
