Village Board Hears Proposal for Backyard Chickens
The Okawville Village Board heard a request from a citizen about allowing for backyard chickens during the regular meeting Monday. Alicia Christ proposed changing village ordinances to allow for permits for keeping a small number of hens in town.
“Over the last few years, keeping backyard chickens for fresh eggs has become very popular,” Christ told the board. “A lot of towns in the area are allowing it now.” Full details on the proposal are in this week’s issue.
The board also covered interdepartmental load pay backs, Police and Liquor Committee updates, Water and Sewer Committee updates.
At the end of the meeting, Jasper thanked retiring board member Ronda Pryor for her years of service to the village before swearing in the new board. Jeannie Millikin was elected to the open seat in last month’s election.
Dawn Moyer, Village Secretary, was also appointed to the position of Village Clerk. Her appointment is for two years.
Full meeting coverage is available in this week’s issue.
