OJHS Track Athletes Punch Tickets to State Meet
Okawville Junior High track teams competed in rainy, windy conditions at the regional meet Saturday at Central High School in Breese.
The Junior Lady Rockets finished second and sent several athletes to the State Meet, and the Junior Rockets finished sixth out of the ten schools competing.
In order to advance to state, athletes or relay teams must finish first or second or hit the state qualifying marks. The following is the list of individuals who qualified for state:
The 1,600-meter relay team of Madisyn Wienstroer, Kylie Going, Ady Harre and Lydia Luechtefeld qualified for state. On
Wienstroer and Going also earned spots in the 400-meter run, and Harre qualified in the 800-meter run.
Maci Wolf will compete in the high jump and 200-meter events at state.
For the boys, Grant Schleifer earned a spot at the big meet in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter events.
The boys long jump events was suspended Saturday and was held Wednesday. At that meet Hayden Shubert qualified in the long jump.
The state meet is set for Saturday, May 11 at Herrin.
