Truss Failure Causes Closure of American Legion Dance Hall

As of April 18th, the Ralph G. McIlwain American Legion Post #233 of Okawville has cancelled all scheduled events for its dance hall section. No additional events will be scheduled until further notice.

It was hoped stabilization of the truss at the north end of the hall would allow hall events to continue in a limited capacity. However, a second compromised truss was discovered and the decision to close the hall was made.

Post 233 representatives are meeting with the insurance company on Wednesday to determine the next steps. It is not known what caused the truss failure, but a heavy wet snow in January is suspect.

The post needs your support. The bar and kitchen remain open for business. The Queen of Hearts drawing will continue on Monday nights. The fish fry will also continue with dine-in seating limited to the bar area only. Carry-outs dinners are available as always and orders can be taken at the walk-up window in the east vestibule, at the bar or by phone at 243-6545.
