Village Raises Trash, Water and Sewer Rates

The Okawville Village Board voted to increase water and sewer and trash rates during the regular meeting Monday night.

Water rates will go up to $20 per month minimum for the first 1,000 gallons in town, and $30 per month minimum for out of town. Additional use over 1,000 gallons will be charged $10.50 per 1,000 gallons.

Sewer service will increase to a $15 minimum charge for the first 1,500 gallons, and $5 per 1,000 gallons used over 1,500 gallons per month.

Current water rates are $18 minimum in town and $28 out of town for the first 1,000 gallons. Sewer rates are currently $14.74 minimum for the first 1,500 gallons and $4.50 per 1,000 additional gallons used.

According to board member Drew Hesker, the rate increases are due to increased rates from Washington County Water Company.

“We didn’t raise village rates when Washington County Water increased prices last year,” said Hesker. “The rates went up again this year, so we had to increase ours, too.”
