Lady Rockets Season Ends

The Okawville Lady Rockets’ season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion at the Lebanon Regional after losing to the host school on an overtime buzzer-beater Friday night.

With a regional championship on the line, the Lady Rockets took on the host Lebanon Greyhounds in a defensive battle. Neither team scored over the first three minutes until Kym Schmitt connected on a basket in the lane.

Okawville was down by two nearing the end of the regulation, but a nice floating jump shot by Abby Riechmann tied the game at 31-31 to send it into overtime.

In overtime, the Lady Greyhounds hit two free throws to give them the back a lead. The Lady Rockets responded with two points of their own, leaving the game tied at 33 with Lebanon in possession. The Lady Rocket defense did a nice job of trying to shut down the Lebanon team, especially the All-State Reinneck twins, but Grace Krumsieg, who had not scored in the contest, sank a shot at the buzzer to give the Lady Greyhounds the win.
