Government Shutdown Felt in Washington County

Residents of Washington County could feel some pain as a result of the shutdown of the federal government.

The Farm Services Office is closed due to the government shut down.

The Farm Services Agency office in Nashville, part of the United States Department of Agriculture, is shut down pending a resolution to the gridlock in the nation’s capital.

According to Stephanie Kraus of the Illinois Farm Bureau, the closure of that office could create uncertainty for area farmers.

“With the office closed, farmers who get FSA loans are being affected,” Kraus said. “It could be a problem, with some people already buying seeds and chemicals for the coming year.”
