The Okawville Community Fire Protection District has purchased a 5 acre site near the interstate for possibly building a new fire house, said Chief James Rossel.
The tract purchased for $87,000 from Bridgeport Properties owners Lyle Hackstadt and Arnold Schmale lies on the south side of Route 177.
Rossel said that a larger fire house is needed because the equipment has gotten larger. “We have outgrown our space,” he said.
The fire house is now located in the center of town on Front Street, in a building shared with the Village Hall.
No immediate plans are being made for construction, said the chief. The first steps will be to determine costs and if grants are available.
